Multiplication and Division
Multiplication is a way to add a number to itself multiple times. For example, if you have 4 groups of 3 apples, you can find the total by multiplying 4 (groups) by 3 (apples in each group), which gives you 12 apples. In multiplication, the numbers being multiplied are called factors, and the result is called the product.
Division is the process of splitting a number into equal parts. It answers the question: how many times does one number fit into another? For example, if you have 12 apples and you want to share them equally among 4 friends, you divide 12 by 4. This means each friend gets 3 apples. In division, the number you are dividing is called the dividend, the number you are dividing by is the divisor, and the result is called the quotient.
Both operations are related: multiplication can be thought of as repeated addition, while division is like finding how many times a number can be taken away.
